About Eau Gallie

Eau Gallie (pronounced "Oh Galley") is a small community nestled against the Indian River (part of the intra-coastal waterway) about an hour's drive east of Orlando. For over 100 years this community has thrived and grown, and continues to define itself in the shadow of Melbourne Florida. Eau Gallie and Melbourne merged city government and services in 1969 ("Melbourne" is the consolidated city name), but old Eau Gallie still survives in our community.

During the late 1900's and through much of the twentieth century, Eau Gallie was the hub of activity in this part of Florida. The annual Eau Gallie George Washington birthday celebration brought people from miles away to our quaint little town for the fun celebrations, the famous fish fry, great boating and the friendly atmosphere. At that time it was known for its diverse culture and pleasant small town ambiance. Eau Gallie's historic charm remains but offers residents and visitors so much more today. Though events and times changed through the years, Eau Gallie retained an identity of its own.

A leisurely stroll through our historic community is a great way to see many beautifully restored buildings and historical sites that dot the area. The community continues its historic tradition by sponsoring an eclectic mix of local events, which consistently draw people from many parts of Florida and the world. The best that Florida has to offer can be found in Eau Gallie, with its great fishing, boating, restaurants, museums, antique and art stores - all within walking distance! We have a lot to offer without the hurried pace. Dine on the river enjoying the view and a gentle breeze, walk next door the library to pickup a book, then pass the time under a shade tree next to the river. Browse the local museum, visit antique and jewelry stores, stop for a cool drink - all this can be experienced by walking 2 blocks!

With a little something for everyone and an easy going atmosphere, we hope you find Eau Gallie as charming as the local residents do. The community, its residents and businesses, are heavily involved in ongoing multiple revitalization projects that will continue to enhance our unique community. From new sidewalks to a planned "river walk," the citizens of Eau Gallie are proud to invite you here to experience what we already know is truly the Space Coast's hidden gem!
